Yes, its already Thanksgiving- (whoa what happened to summer, Labor Day, back to school sales, Halloween, and the fall colors???) okay maybe it's just me but it is really going waaay too fast this year.

We do need to stop and take a moment to be thankful for our families and loved ones, our continued good health, our successful businesses and careers, our wonderful bosses and co-workers, caregivers, nurses, freinds and neighbors. Our lovely homes, our sweet pets and everything else that warms our hearts. We have to live in the moment, remember that today is the tomorrow that we worried about yesterday and this is the future - right now!! So live right, dont go to bed angry and remember to make your words sweet because you may have to hear (or see) them again sometime.

Jo Alch, RN chosen as finalist for D Magazines first "Excellence in Nursing Awards 2012"

Once again Acappella In Home Care is on the cutting edge of nursing excellence. Our own Director of Nursing, Jo Alch, RN has been chosen as a finalist out of hundreds of entries submitted by hospitals, doctors, private practices and patients in the Dallas Metroplex. 20 categories were selected and editors then selected the best nominations answering questions of how these very special nurses impacted their life. The judging panel was among a selected group of nursing and medical professional that did not know any of these nurses personally. The winners will be announced and the finalists will be honored at a cocktail party and awards program in February. The winners will be featured in the March 2012 issue of D Magazine .

This is just another example of how important and positively life changing the work is that Jo and our other wonderful RN's do; we are proud to be a part of the Acappella team.

For those of you who think North Texas weather has gone to the dogs- fear not!! It really has been a bit dicey as of late..so in that vein I am posting pictures of my dogs in the snow just for fun. Seriously though we want to thank our wonderful caregivers who have gone to their patients no matter what the weather and made us proud. Which once again proves that we do hire the best of the best and our staff doesn't let a little snow get them down. Thank you all for a job well done- and thank you everyone for your kind referrals.

As all of you "lovers" know, February is the month for love and everything else HEART-Y, so ourFebruary educational series topic is going to be "Heart Healthy".. we are going to be offering tips on eating right- not SO much about chocolate but other "right" stuff. Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States? Well it is, and we want to do our part to get the word out that it is never too late to change your eating and -yes- exercise habits, and make your heart beat longer and healthier. If you would like us to plan an educational series event at your facility this month- let us know. In the meantime remember to give your loved one an extra hug, (or two or three) during February!!

2011 Educational Series started at Medallion Assisted Living

Yesterday was our first of the ten educational programs we are giving to the community and it was a wonderful success. The Activities Director, Caren Cool, at Medallion and her wonderful residents were having a blast answering the fun trivia and laughing at our attempts at humor. Does this sound corny to you? Maybe, but its not really. People who live alone, or who maybe have only a visiting caregiver for a few hours a day- long for visits. What would it really take from our day to stop by to see someone who lives alone, who has no family or freinds, and spend a few precious moments with them? It would not make a lot of difference to you other than you have to give up time shopping, texting, watching TV or chatting with your pals- BUT to the other person it could be the biggest part of their day.

How do we get so wrapped up in ourselves, so focused on stuff, that we forget the reason for the season? Visit someone, take them a small gift, a plant or some cookies, read to them for 30 minutes and you will get the biggest gift of all that you never expected, a great feeling you cannot buy which is virtually priceless.. the feeling of giving back...simple, and yes maybe corny too but oh what a feeling!!
